Bette Gustavson

Bette Ann Giuffre Gustavson was born May 11, 1936 in Northampton, Massachusetts to Josephine and Cosimo Giuffre and passed away September 26, 2021.

Bette received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts.  She started her graduate studies at Southampton College and completed her Masters in Education with the University of Massachusetts.   Bette taught elementary school for many years in New York, Massachusetts and Texas.  In Austin, Texas, she taught school at Joslin, Cunningham, Travis Heights, and Summit Elementary Schools. She was passionate about teaching and loved her students. Upon retiring from education, she began working with her other love, antiques.  Bette loved attending and traveling to auctions throughout her life. After she moved to Smithville, she and her husband opened Wild Goose Antiques.

Bette’s son Mathew Gustavson and granddaughter Mia Miller preceded her in death.

Bette is survived by her beloved husband of 63  years, Thomas Gustavson; daughter, Nancy Roll and her partner David Barnes and grandchildren Megan, Emily, and Frank; great grand-daughter, Meadow; daughter, Janet Remlinger and her husband Robert Remlinger and grandchildren, Jeannette, Mary, Anna, and Lilly; daughter, Susan Gustavson; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Gustavson and grandchildren,  Sam, Charlie, and Thomas. She is also survived by her sisters, Anis McGrath and Ellen Bonzak and many nieces and nephews.

Mass will be on October 30, 2021 at 11:00am in the chapel at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Smithville, TX.  There will be an informal gathering after the service.  Anyone interested in sharing a meal with the family after the mass, please contact a family member to let them know they would like to attend.
