Carmen Mangene

July 11, 1925 — January 29, 2019

Carmen J. "Carm" Mangene, 93, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Christopher House in Austin, Texas with his wife Dorothy at his side. Born in Watervliet New York on July 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Battley) Mangene. Carmen was raised and educated in Watervliet and joined the U.S. Navy when World War II broke out at age 17. He received the American Theatre Medal, European Theatre Medal, and the Victory Medal. On February, 10 1948 he married Dorothy Seymour and had four children. Carmen resided with his family in Watervliet, NY until 1962 when he built a new home in West Sand Lake, NY. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Green Island, NY as an Inventory Manager for over 38 years, before retiring in 1985. He and his wife Dorothy then joined the RVICS (Roaming Volunteers in Christ Service) Ministries traveling across the Country with groups volunteering at various Christian organizations. In 1995 retired and settled in RVICS Village in Smithville TX. They were members of Rosanke Baptist Church from 1995 until 2005 then transferring their membership to the First Baptist Church of Smithville, TX where they found great fellowship and praised Jesus for the last 15 years.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. (Seymour) Mangene; devoted father of Charles (Kathy) Mangene of Midlothian, TX; Debra (the late Joe) Giarrusso of El Cajon,CA; Dorothy Lynn (the late Vincenzo) Sanna of San Marcos,CA; and Elizabeth (David) McDaniel of McLean, VA; proud grandfather of Sarah Mangene (Dennis Sypowicz), Nicole (Joe) Cermak, Michelle Tierney, Michael (Tosha) Tierney, Camille (Anthony) Intonte, Jennifer Fonda, Paul (Kathy) Mason, Vincent (Michelle) Sanna,  Jessica McDaniel, Geena McDaniel and Rochelle (Sean) Clark; great-grandfather of Luciano and Portia Cermak, Anthony and Elijah Tierney, Christopher, Peyton, Caidance, and Nathan Tierney, Tyler and Ashlin Cosselman, Sequoia Ontiveroz, Dominick Barton-Fonda, Jack Mason, Anthony and Lincoln Sanna. Brother of the late Henry (Patricia) Mangene of Wynantskill, NY; and sisters Joan (Joseph) Torre of Watervliet, NY; and the late Carolyn Riley, Millie McGivern and Mary Lou DiCiccio. Carmen is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be Monday, February 11, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, 300 Hudgins Street, PO Box 746, Smithville, Texas 78957 where a Celebration of Life will be held. Interment will be at the Fort Hood Veterans Cemetery, Killeen TX at a later date.
