David Smith

David Leon Smith, 81, born in Weatherford, Oklahoma, died on Monday, August 14, 2017. David, son of Edward and Gladys Smith, passed away at his home in Smithville, Texas. He is survived by his sister Kathryn Robnett of Weatherford and her four children, Edward Weldon Robnett, Kem Mendizadal, Scott Allen Robnett and Kris Aaron Robnett.

David and his business partner, Harold J. Garner, opened Garner & Smith Bookstore in Austin in 1962, and Garner & Smith Art Gallery in 1969. The Garner & Smith Bookstore was a landmark on "the drag" for 30 years. In 1994, they shifted their business to antiques. And in 1999 they moved their antique business to Smithville.

After Harold retired in 2005, David opened his own antique shop and it quickly became a gathering place for the local residents. You could always hear a great story, a profusion of laughter and David always had a good cup of coffee waiting for his many guests. David L. Smith will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of David's life will be held at All Faiths of the Pines in Smithville on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
