Doris Hibbs Patterson passed away December 10, 2022 at the age of 88.
Buelah Doris Hibbs Patterson was born on January 26, 1934, in Elgin, Texas. Her family was a hard working one and she dropped out of high school to marry her sweetheart, Elvin Patterson at the age of 16.
She is survived by one brother and one sister. She has four children, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. And there are in-laws, married to her children and grandchildren, all of whom have loved her like their own mother.
For work, she helped raise a lot of children by baby sitting for them in her house for many years, worked in the elementary school cafeteria and was the laundry lady for 48 boys who lived in the woods in a Therapeutic Camp. Somewhere in there, she got her GED.
She lost her husband of 65 years in 2015. After that, she lived alone saying that she wanted to try that after having lived with first her father and then her husband for all of her life. She loved her family, reading books, wrapping presents, and playing games. In her later years, she took up quilting and eventually made works of art for each of her family members. And that was a lot of quilts. When she finished the last one for her family, she stopped making them and took up reading books with the same focus. And she loved to play poker, which she was still doing a week before she got sick for the last time.
She loved us all. And we all loved her. She was smart, funny, kind, thoughtful, generous and she never took anything personally. She was strong, tender, and she was wise. She was everything you would want in a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. There is a huge hole in the heart of this family that we will have to fill with love for each other. And with God's grace, we can. Bless this wonderful woman's legacy.
