Dorothy Ingram

July 6, 1935 — August 8, 2021

Smithville

Dorothy Brosch Ingram of Smithville, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the age of 86 after a long, hard-fought battle with both Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body dementia.

Born July 6, 1935 to Edwin and Mary Brosch, she was a lifelong resident of Smithville and involved in many activities and organizations in the community throughout her lifetime. Known as Dot in high school, she belonged to multiple student organizations, played basketball, softball, volleyball and tennis, and was elected Drum Major of the band her junior and senior years.

After meeting at the Bastrop Homecoming, and then a second meeting a little later at a football game at Barry Field, she dated and then married Bobby Ingram on August 22, 1953. She joined Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator after graduation, then began a family and from 1955 to 1968 was a stay-at-home Mom. She worked as a teacher’s aide for ten years, before going back to take night classes and earn her degree from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) and her Masters from The University of Texas at Austin. She then began her teaching career and over the years taught grades 4, 5, 6, and high school English before becoming Director of Instruction of Smithville ISD.

She retired in 1995 and enjoyed spending time traveling, following Longhorn baseball, and her time with her grandchildren. She was active her entire life in her church, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, and was proud to work with St. Vincent de Paul and Phi Delta Kappa, along with many community organizations throughout the years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Mary Brosch, husband Bobby Ingram, and sister Clara Vacek.

Left to cherish her memories are family: son Bobby Ingram and wife Denise, daughter Becky Bunte and husband Mark, son Danny Ingram and wife Melissa, daughter Brenda Wallace and husband John, brother-in-law George Vacek , brother -in-law Jerry Ingram and wife Doris, grandchildren Rikki Bonet and husband Adriel, Melinda Bunte Anderson, Lorey Helford and husband Bryan, Stacey Kaleh and husband Brian, Drew Ingram and wife Leigh, Kyle Wallace, Cody Wallace, and great grandchildren Preston and Tyler Bonet, Daxton and Maisyn Anderson, Summer Kaleh, Lily and Derek Ingram, Casey Wallace, Abbygale Helford, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Dorothy Ingram, known by her grandchildren as Granny, was loved dearly by her family and friends.  She will be missed greatly, but the memories will live for many generations in her family.  She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, a most caring grandmother and great-grandmother, and a good friend to many.
