Eric Smith

Gunnery Sergeant Eric James Smith passed away on July 24,2024. Eric was born on August 06, 1973, and was born in Austin, Texas. He spent most of his youth, surrounded by his family, in Bastrop, Tx.

Eric Smith served as part of the United States Marine Corps until being honorably discharged on March 31, 2015, after serving 20 years to his country. During his service he specialized as a Combat Engineer, Martial Arts Instructor, and Marksmanship Instructor.

During Eric’s time in active duty, he received 5 Marine Corps Good Conduct medals,1 Iraq Campaign medal with 1 star, 7 letters of appreciation, 1 Humanitarian Service medal, 3 Navy Unit Commendations, 1 Marine Corps Recruiting ribbon, 1 Global War on Terrorism Service medal, 1 Joint Meritorious Unit award, 2 National Defense Service medals, 4 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, and many, many more. It was his honor and passion to protect and serve his country. Thank you for your service and dedication to our country, Gunnery Sergeant Eric Smith.

Eric attended Park University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business management. He graduated from Park University in August of 2022, where he walked the stage with his family by his side.

Eric Smith is survived by his wife, Kathy. His three children, Sabrina, Stephanie, and James. His mother and father, Martha and Arthur. His brothers and sister, Ryan, Aaron, and Jennifer.

Services for Eric will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas.

Visitation will start at 11:00am. The funeral service will begin at 12:00pm. Graveside services will begin at 1:30pm with Military Honors at 1:45pm at Oak Hill Cemetery - McDade, Texas
