James O’dell Barnett

James Odell Barnett passed away March 13, 2024 at the age of 84.

O’dell was born in Gonzales Texas to W. C. Barnett, father and Merit Barnett, mother.

After graduation from high school he went on to barber school. He started his career in Freeport, Texas and after some time moved to Smithville, Texas. He went on to own Barnett’s Barber Shop for years in Smithville. He retired from barbering in 2017.

O’dell married his wife Ruth Marie Brazil on May 10, 1969. They were married 48 years and had two children, Michelle and Michael. He loved his kids,  grandkids and great-grand kids.

He loved working in the flower beds and tending to their garden. O’dell loved to travel to different places. He and Marie loved to go to Las Vegas and Coushatta, La. to play the machines.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and the Funeral service will begin at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville,Texas.
