John Jay Deming was born April 9, 1954 in New Baltimore MI at Selfridge Air Force base to Lee Jay & Helen Maxine Deming. With his father being in the military, they lived in various places throughout his childhood.
That journey took him and his family to Del Valle TX in 1971. From there he enlisted into the United States Army on April 16, 1971 in San Antonio TX. John was stationed in Germany, and was honorably discharged receiving the National Defense Service medal and sharpshooter honors on April 16, 1973.
John came home to Smithville TX, and met the love of his life Sharon Kaye Heptner the spring of 1973. Shortly after, they were joined in marriage on December 22, 1973.
John started his career with various construction jobs until he found his calling with the Texas Forest Service. John fought forest fires and contributed to land conservation efforts while employed with the forest service.
After the birth of his daughter Rachel and son John Lane, John and Sharon took the faithful leap and moved to Harriet AR the summer of 1987. Shortly after, his son Shane was born in 1988. John received the opportunity to work at the Buffalo National Park Service. John continued on with his calling to fire fighting, conservation, national preservation, historical restoration and retired after 25 years of service.
After John & Sharon both retired from the National Park Service, they moved to Trinity TX to enjoy retirement in the lake community and to enjoy all of their grandchildren Maggie, Hayden, Kennedy, Larado, Jake, and Rykan...
John passed peacefully at his home in Trinity TX with his loving wife of 47 years at his side on May 19, 2021.
John Jay Deming is preceded in death by his parents, Lee & Maxine Deming, his eldest son Daniel John Deming and sister Amanda Deming.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sharon, daughter Rachel & husband Ross Ashorn of Brenham TX, son John Lane Deming of Mt. Home AR, and son Shane & wife Kathleen Deming of Yellville AR. Grandchildren, Maggie Layne Beuershausen, Hayden Scott & Kennedy Jayne Ashorn, John Larado & Daniel Jacob Deming, and Rykan Lee Deming;.sister, Debbie and husband Raleigh Measom of Coeur d' Alene, ID; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home. We are located at 110 American Legion Road in Smithville, Texas.
Services will be at 2:00pm on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Marrs Jones Funeral Home with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery.
