It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lena Ellen Morrell on January 8, 2025, at the age of 102 in Smithville, Texas. She was born on May 10, 1922, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky. Lena's passing leaves a significant void in our family, and her absence will be deeply felt by many. Her unwavering love for her family was boundless, and she was cherished by countless individuals.

Lena and Forrest first met in New Castle, Indiana, and celebrated their marriage on October 20, 1939. They cherished their time together until his passing on July 8, 2008. Lena had a deep passion for gardening, cooking, baking and family gatherings. She developed an appreciation for bluegrass music during her upbringing in a large family, enjoying evenings filled with music on the porch. She also found joy in visiting beaches and collecting seashells. After Forrest’s retirement they relocated to Texas in 1989, enjoying travels throughout the state in their RV until his passing. Lena took great pride in her identity as a Texan and loved watching the Texas Longhorns football team, while also maintaining a fond appreciation for the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame, which reflected her earlier years in South Bend, Indiana, where she and Forrest raised their four children.

She is survived by her four children: Linda Wylie, Sherry McGoffin and her husband Bob, Steve Morrell and his significant other Linda, Mark Morrell and his wife Beverly. Additionally, her grandchildren: Douglas Pruett, Mike Harp, Christy Dunn, Randall Czarnecki, Melissa Morrell, Garrett Morrell, Austin Morrell, and Colline Hill, as well as 12 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild, along with numerous beloved extended cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Daniel Heath; her mother, Dollie May (Denny) Heath; her husband, Forrest Morrell; and her grandson, Tommy Harp. Lena was also the last of her eight siblings.
