Margie Nell Hemphill Howe, a beloved member of the community, passed away on November 12, 2023, at her home in Paige, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 27, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas. Margie lived a life filled with faith and unconditional love for her family.
Margie was a dedicated wife, loving mother and friend to many. She embraced the values of hard work and had a deep relationship with the Lord. Her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of many.
In 1942, Margie graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School. She then relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas during World War II, where she met and married the love of her life, Lowell Howe “Foots”, while he was serving in the United States Coast Guard. Margie and “Foots” had 5 children and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and instilled in them the values that were dear to her.
Margie is now reunited with her loving husband, Lowell Howe "Foots," her sons Johnny Lowell Howe and William Henry Howe. She is also reunited with her parents James Harvey "Butch" and Lillie Francis Adams Hemphill "Mama Lillie", Margie's brother James Samuel “Little Jimmie” Hemphill and sister Elsie Maedel Hemphill Richardson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her surviving children: Brenda Willie (Curtis), Rocky Howe Sr. (Virginia), and Libby Smith; and her two sisters, Ruth Beck and Doris Webb. Margie's impact extends far beyond immediate family as she touched the lives of not only generations but also friends who became like family.
Margie's grandchildren Rocky Howe Jr., Rachel White, Chad Willie (Rachel), Sherri Selick, Kim Nicholson (Greg), Britt Howe; great-grandchildren Noah Reed, Gunnar Nicholson (Jade), Colt Nicholson, Wilson Willie, Houston Willie, Ryan Selick, Maddie Howe, Kindle Howe; and great-great-grandchildren Brooks Nicholson and Nash Nicholson will always carry the memories of their beloved grandmother in their hearts.
To honor and celebrate Margie's life, her family invites friends, family, and loved ones to a visitation on November 20, 2023. The visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Marrs-Jones Funeral Home located at 110 American Legion Rd in Smithville, Texas.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at the same location. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. It is a time for all who knew Margie to come together in love and support as they remember her remarkable life of 100 years.
Margie Nell Howe will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. Her kind heart and unwavering faith continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Although she is no longer with us physically, her spirit will always live on in our hearts.
