And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
-Matthew 4:19 (ESV)
Mark Steven Rainosek, age 62, who enjoyed his “little slice of heaven” in Rockport, Texas, on Copano Bay, passed away on August 6, 2024.
He was born on May 16, 1962 in Austin, Texas, a son of the late Frank and Bernice Rainosek. He grew up with his brother Frank Jr. in the Austin area and is a Reagan High School graduate.
As young boys, Mark and his brother spent many of weekends at Nana’s and Gramp’s farms where they were inducted into the ritual of picking up rocks, feeding the cattle, gardening and many other chores the adults assigned to keep them busy and out of mischief. As Mark and Frank moved into their teen years, they spent most free weekends on the coast in Matagorda, Texas, learning how to fish and catch crab on a string. During these adolescence years, Mark proved to be a true angler and his passion for exploring the outdoors continued to nurture his spirit into adulthood.
At the age of 19, Mark and his dad made a trip to Giddings, Texas, stopped at an oil company and saw a “help wanted” sign posted in the window. Not only did he land the job before he walked out of the building, Mark became the company’s youngest workman who proved to be a valuable employee for 39 years.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mark and Sheila spent years fishing the Texas Highland Lakes for black bass and crappie and many years at the coast catching red fish, trout, and flounder. While at a Lake LBJ Fishing Tournament, Sheila managed to distract Mark and other fisherman from the competition. As Mark turned from the front of the boat to look back at her, all he could see in his line of sight were two feet sticking up in the air, displaying giant wool socks for all to see. “What are you doing,” asked Mark? “What else is a woman to do when her feet are frozen” was her reply.
Moreover, Mark’s love for hunting, raising cattle and cooking were constants in his life; he was the “pit master” at family gatherings. Not only did he enjoy cooking for family, he loved preparing chicken for his dogs. He will be sorely missed by many wonderful friends and family members.
Mark Rainosek is survived by his brother, Frank Rainosek Jr., niece Erin (Rainosek) Milam and her husband Matt, wife of 33 years Sheila Rainosek and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Bernice Rainosek, grandparents George and Vlasta Rainosek, Joe and Cecilia Sisak, and many aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be: Steve Darilek, Ashley Mutschink, Jim Barringer, Stephen Hrbacek, Cliff Copeland
