In her late teens, Martha moved to San Antonio, TX to live with her Aunt Clara and work for S.H. Kress department store. Several years later she returned to String Prairie to reunite with her long time love Robert Kassner. They were married November 1945.
After marrying, Robert and Martha moved to San Antonio, TX where they raised two children, Lynn and Ruby Kassner. In the early 1950’s they started Kassner Tile Company, which they proudly ran for over 30 years. In 1959 they built their first home in McQueeney, TX, where they lived for the next 25 years enjoying time on the lake with friends and family.
In 1983 Robert and Martha decided to retire and move to their forever home in String Prairie, TX. The extended family grew over the years and together they enjoyed many more decades of family time on the ranch. Robert and Martha had a deep passion for gardening, cattle ranching, hunting and fishing and devotion to their church and community.
Martha was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a very kind and gentle soul, a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She had such a keen sense of humor that always kept the family laughing. Martha was a long-time member of the St. Anne’s Society, the String Prairie Community Center, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and 10 Pin Professional Bowlers Association. She was an avid baker and canner and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, bowling, and gardening throughout her life.
