Mary "Nana" Trinidad

Mary Juanita Trinidad, 71, of Smithville, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Mary “Nana” Juanita Mendez (Trinidad) was born October 4, 1949, in Stamford, Texas to Manuel and Mary A. Mendez. Nana worked as an Apartment Manager for EBMC at Smithville Gardens Apartments for over 16 years. She also worked as a Social Services Program Assistant for Travis County for over 22 years and was instrumental in keeping thousands of youth out of the Criminal Justice system. Nana loved her community and always volunteered her time to help others. She volunteered at the Travis County Sheriff Department in Austin, TX., Travis County Health & Human Services Community, National Night Coordinator in Smithville, TX and Del Valle, TX, Caritas of Waco and ran for office as City Council in Waelder, TX. Nana’s family was the most important part of her life. She loved her Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Longhorns, music, dancing, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was always excited about family gatherings and tailgating for a Dallas Cowboys football game.

She was preceded in death by her father, Manuel; mother, Mary; sister, Rosie; brother, Joe Mendez.

Nana is survived by her companion, Matias Reyes; daughter, Stephanie (Farrah) & husband, Matthew RodriQuez; son, Michael & wife, Jennifer Benavides; daughter,
Veronica (Vica) Benavides; daughter, Elizabeth (Pill) & husband, Gabriel Nevarez; son, Matthew Benavides; step-daughter, Christina & husband, Javier Vargas; brother, Adam & wife, Carmen Mendez; sisters, Rebecca (Becky) Mendez, Martha Mendez, and half-sister, Angie Mendez. Nana had 21 grandchildren,  24 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm from the chapel of Marrs-Jones Funeral Home.
