Robert Henry Miller, age 85, passed away Monday July 23, 2018 at the Austin Heart Hospital, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years , Alice Lanell Miller of Smithville. His sons: Larry Dean Miller and wife Janet of Bastrop, Garry Gene Miller and wife Carol of Smithville, and Mark Alan Miller and wife Sherry of Leander. Nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Brother L.W. Miller of Brenham. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, L.W. and Ida Miller, sisters Adelia Miller, Esther Hart and Aileen Bridges.
Robert Henry was born in Muldoon Texas. Growing up spending hours trapping minks for pocket change and spending time with all his Muldoon buddies.
Robert Henry attended school in Flatonia, earning honors as a track star, leading him to run the mile at the State Track meet. After school, he joined the United States Army, achieving the rank of sergeant in a very short time. He was stationed in Rutherford New Jersey, working as a radar and computer specialist, guarding the city of New York. He started working for M.E. Ruby Inc. during high school and continued his employment upon returning from the military, for a total of 30 years. He then worked at Dean Word Company until his retirement in 1997. During his entire adult life he maintained and worked tirelessly at the family farm.
After retirement he found great pleasure fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand children. He was a long term member of Grace Lutheran Church of Smithville. His endless love of his wife, sons and daughters in law, and all the grandchildren and great children will be his legacy.
