In Loving Memory of Rowena (Newman) Sandlin
September 16, 1924 – September 15, 2021
Rowena Sandlin, 96, of Rosanky, Texas passed away early Wednesday morning September 15, 2021. She was born on September 16, 1924 to James Harry Newman and Emma Beck Newman of Seattle, Washington.
She graduated from Seattle High School in 1942. She worked at several office jobs and met her husband, Berry Sandlin, while working at the Army base in Seattle.
They married on September 9, 1944. They had two children in Seattle, Ellen Fletcher (Michael-deceased) and Erik “Don” Sandlin (Yvone). They moved to Texas and had two more children, Denise Davis and Elaine Sandlin (Benny Dunbar, Jr.).
She was active in her church and several bible study groups. She received an award for being the eldest and longest female member of Rosanky Baptist Church in 2016.
Rowena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Berry Sandlin; and daughter, Denise Davis.
Rowena is survived by three children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was loved by many family members and friends and will be greatly missed. We will all try to follow her example of being humble and serving others. She strived to hear the words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21.
The visitation will begin at 10:00am and the funeral service will begin at 11:00am at Rosanky Baptist Church on Thursday, September 23, 2021.
Burial will follow at Rosanky Cemetery.
